Breadcrumb Navigation

Breadcrumb navigation refers to a graphical operating element which shows the user where they are located within a hierarchy of elements. This is usually done by lining up the names of the hierarchy levels involved, starting from the top level (left) and ending with the current level (right), typically with a specific separator such as / or > between the components of this path to make the structure clear.

The term is in reference to the "Hänsel und Gretel" fairytale, in which the children are led into the forest by their parents and scatter breadcrumbs on the path to find their way back.
