User Groups
What is a user group?
User groups allow you to combine users, e.g. to assign them certain rights or to define them as recipients of notifications.
For example, user groups are used in alerting when defining the recipients of notifications (see Alert Definitions - Properties). It is also possible to notify all users of a group, regardless of alerts. (See Notifications).
The user group management can be reached via the icon
in the menu.User groups can be created per project, with the users still being valid across projects. This means that a user can have different rights in different projects.
To manage user groups, a user needs the correct rights. A user is given these rights either through a cross-project role (see User Roles) or by membership in a group with the corresponding rights (see User Group Properties).

.Carry out the desired changes (see also User Group Properties for details on the individual entries).

User Group Properties
The properties of a user group are defined in the tabs described below:
"General" tab
Name
Text field to enter the name of the user group.Description
Text field to enter a description (optional).
"Assigned User" tab
This section presents a table of the users registered in Sedrix with the most important properties, captioned with Users.
Check the appropriate boxes to specify the users to be members of the currently edited user group.
Note: If you move the mouse over the number of members of the current user group displayed in the “Number” column, a tooltip displays a list of the names of these members.
"Assigned Folders"
This area presents a hierarchical list of the folders and subfolders defined in the current project, captioned with Folder Access Rights.
Select the folders (and/or subfolders ) which which a user of this group is allowed to change and whose contents the user is allowed to view by marking the corresponding checkboxes.
In this way, access to the project tree or the folder hierarchy can be restricted by allowing the user group access only to certain folders.
Any restrictions made here do not apply to a privileged user in the group (see User Roles).
Note: This setting corresponds to the similar settings for a folder in the “Access rights” tab (see Folder Properties): Here you can assign or revoke the access rights of the currently edited user group for several folders at once, there you can assign or revoke the access rights to the current folder for several user groups at once.
"Rights"
In this area, you can define in detail the rights of the users in the user group with regard to certain objects or resources, such as
These rights express which activities may be carried out by a user of the user group with the respective object/resource, e.g.
View
View (including alarms)
Edit
Create
Delete
etc.
Right = Combination of object/resource and activity
The “View” activity granted to an object/resource corresponds to a “Read only” right on that object/resource.
For each object/resource for which rights can be assigned separately, a dropdown menu with a list of activities is displayed in the view (these can be different depending on the object).
The activities are arranged hierarchically here, i.e. the activity further down in the list contains (also allows) the activities from the list further up.
For the object/resource “Folder” this means, for example, that a user group that has been assigned the activity “Delete” may also read, edit and create new folders.
Use these dropdown menus to select the appropriate activity in order to assign the desired “rights to the object”.
Examples:
Drop-down menu “Measuring points”:
Selecting the “View” activity means that users of the current user group can only display a measuring point.
They are not allowed to edit measuring points, create new measuring points or delete existing ones.Dropdown menu “Measurement points”: Selecting the activity “View (including alerts)” means that users of the current user group can on the one hand display a measurement point and on the other hand also view alerts that have occurred in it (all other restrictions of the above example still apply, of course).
etc.
Again, any settings made here do not restrict the rights of privileged users (see User Roles).
Note: A user can belong to several user groups within a project, for which in general different rights can be defined. In this case, the “highest” right of all these user groups “wins” for a certain object/resource and activity.
Notify User Groups
It is possible to notify all users in a user group. These users receive a notification based on their selected communication channel (email, SMS). See User Properties > Notification settings.
Proceed as follows to send this type of notification:
Open the "User Groups" view by clicking on the "User Groups" icon
in the menu.Click on the "Letter" symbol
of the user group that should receive the notification. In the window that opens, enter a suitable subject in the "Subject" text field, and the message in the "Message" text field.
Click "Send" to send the message (or "Cancel" to cancel the process).
This function is only available when a user has the necessary rights. To have these rights, a user must belong to a user group that has the User groups/Notifications right.
Delete User Group
To delete a user group, the user group must first be opened for editing.
Proceed as follows to delete a user group:
Open the "User Groups" view by clicking on the "User Groups" icon
in the menu.Click on the "Edit" icon
on the right in the line belonging to the user group that you wish to delete. In the Edit view that opens, click the "User Groups" label to open the context menu and select the "Delete" command there.
Select the "Delete" command from the context menu.
Confirm that you wish to delete the user group in the Delete dialog that opens.
If you find that you have selected the incorrect user group, you can cancel the deletion process by clicking "Cancel".
Requirement:
The user group being deleted must no longer be assigned to a folder! In the “Assigned Folders” tab (see Properties of the User Group> Assigned Folders), uncheck any checked boxes and save the user group before you start the process of deleting the user group.
